Student Org/Team Food Pantry Drive Sign-up: Potsdam Appreciation Week 2024

Emerging Leaders is hosting its annual Potsdam Appreciation Week (PAW) on November 4th - November 8th!

PAW is designed to appreciate a different aspect of life at SUNY Potsdam each day while also raising money to support student needs at SUNY Potsdam. On Wednesday, 11/6 from 11am-2pm Emerging Leaders will be highlighting the Student Clubs/Organizations/Teams here on campus by hosting a competition to support the SUNY Potsdam Food Pantry & Health Hub.

This event not only helps support a great cause – YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS AND THE FOOD PANTRY/HEALTH HUB, but it will also be a great way to promote your group and potentially recruit new members!

The three groups who raise the most money will be awarded the following prizes:  1st place: $100; 2nd place: $50; and 3rd place: $25.  Money won can be utilized for either an on-campus event your group hosts or needed equipment/supplies to support your group’s mission.

HERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR GROUP CAN PARTICIPATE:

FOOD DRIVE

This is not just a regular foods drive; it’s a unique food drive designed to increase availability of foods to support diverse food needs, allergy needs, as well as increase perishable food options!  The point system below has been created to prioritize these needs – each item donated will receive the points indicated:

3pts: Halal, Kosher, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Nut- Free, etc. (These items must state that they are specialty foods: Example - GF (Gluten Free), etc.)

2pts: Perishables like fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, etc.

1pt: Regular canned/boxed foods not labeled as specialty items (vegetables/pasta, etc) as well as all toiletry products

***Any packaged or bulk items will be worth double their original point designation***

Examples:

  • A 12-pack of ramen would fall under the 1 point category; because they are in bulk/packaged it will now be worth 2 points.
  • A 12-pack of allergen sensitive granola bars would fall under the 3 point category; because they are in bulk/packaged it will now be worth 6 points

Please do not separate items that come in bulk or items that are not marked for individual sale.

Groups can participate by collecting food drive items on their own in advance of the event and/or during the event, which will provide a group promotional opportunity with a table in the Union lobby.  Groups that do not wish to table in the Union, have the option of dropping off their donations on the day of the event without staffing a table.

CLUB FAVORITE MEMBERS PET JAR WARS

Groups will identify their favorite pet, among their members, and submit a photo of that pet to compete in a Jar Wars!

Students in the lobby on 11/6, will be asked to vote for their favorite pets by placing money in the appropriate jars.  There will also be an on-line donation platform.  No staffing is required from your group – we just need a photo of your group’s favorite pet!

This is a way to raise money for the campus food pantry as well as earn even more points for your organization.  Every $2 in your jar will count for 1 point.

At the end of the day the food drive items and money will be counted by members of Emerging Leaders and the winner of the Food Drive Competition will be announced via email. This will be a great and easy promotional opportunity for your group, plus a chance to win some cash prizes!  We hope you will consider participating and support Emerging Leaders’ fundraising for the SUNY Potsdam Food Pantry & Health Hub!
